Group Funeral Scheme
Q: Who is eligible to join the scheme?
A: Anybody who is between the age of 18 and 64.
Q: How many people can be covered under the benefit?
A: A maximum of eight immediate family members (including the member) and a maximum of four parents.
Q: What is the waiting period for the benefit?
A: Six months for member and immediate family and twelve months for parents. This is with regard to natural causes of death but there is no waiting period for accidental causes of death in both cases.
Q: If one has other Botswana Life Insurance Policies, can they take up a group policy?
A: Yes, as long as one does not have another voluntary group policy.
Q: Can more that one sibling cover their parent?
A: Yes it’s allowed, e.g. if five siblings have covered their mother we will pay all the five claims in the event of death.
Q: Can one get their premiums back when they terminate the policy?
A: Funeral covers are risk policies and because of this, there is no refund payable on risk policies.
Q: Can one cover his extended family?
A: Yes, they can cover their extended family members under the extended family funeral plan.
Group Life and Disability and Permanent Health Insurance
Q: Is one covered only on death and disability?
A: Yes, this is a risk benefit, it has no investment portion.
Q: Who gets my benefits as the member?
A: The employer is paid on behalf of the member and the benefits are paid according to the beneficiaries nominated by the member, this form is kept by the employer.
Group Credit and Group mortgage
Q: In the event of my death or disability who gets paid?
A: The financial institution.
